Do you have an irresistible pizza recipe, take-home pizza kit or photo depicting your pizza or pizza business? We invite you to enter our Canadian Pizza Virtual Competitions!

Send us your best and our expert judges, fellow pizza professionals and all Canadians will vote for their favourites! We’ll announce winners at Canadian Pizza Virtual Summit on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021.

ENTRY GUIDELINES FOR THREE COMPETITIONS:

1) Best Recipe rules:

Each valid entry must include the completed entry form with the following information:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Pizzeria / restaurant
  • Name of the pizza
  • Detailed recipe
  • Photo
  • Description (200 words or less)
  • Video describing your entry and the inspiration behind the creation of your recipe (no longer than two minutes in length)

Recipe specifications:

  • Your recipe must be entirely original and created by you.
  • Each recipe must include readily available ingredients and use precise, clear, unabbreviated measurements (metric or standard) and specific amounts for each ingredient. For example, ounces, litres, grams (fully spelled out).
  • Pizza may be any shape but must be between 10 and 14 inches in size (or the equivalent).
  • There are no restrictions and/or limits on dough, sauce, toppings or styles.
  • Pizza recipes will be scored by an expert judge on the basis of taste, creativity and appearance.

2) Best Pizza Kit rules:

Each valid entry must include the completed entry form with the following information about your pizza kit:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Pizzeria / restaurant
  • Detailed pizza kit recipe/instructions aimed at helping customers make your pizza at home
  • Photo
  • Description (200 words or less)
  • Video describing your entry and the inspiration behind the creation of your pizza kit (no longer than two minutes in length)

Pizza kit specifications:

  • Your pizza kit must be entirely original and created by you.
  • Each kit must include components needed by a customer to make an at-home pizza.
Pizza kits will be judged on: 
  • Visual appeal: Is the kit nicely presented, organized, and ingredients appear to be fresh and enticing.
  • Originality: Is the branding clever? Are the recipes tried and true or with a twist that demonstrates an understanding of white space in the market that creates a point of difference?
  • Ease of use: Are the steps clearly outlined and easily understood. How much time and or special equipment will the consumer need to invest in putting the kit together to make a finished product. 
  • Packaging: Is the packaging sturdy, is it appropriate for the target market, easy to open and protective of the product
  • Marketability: Who is the target market and is it large enough to generate sales? List four marketing channels you plan to use to develop your market ie: retail grocery, online, take out, delivery for sales and traditional and digital marketing for your promotional channels. Will you use sampling, social media, work with influencers, etc? 

3) Best Photo rules:

Each valid entry must include the completed entry form with the following information:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Pizzeria / restaurant
  • Name of the photo
  • Name of photographer
  • Photo
  • Description (200 words or less)

Photo specifications:

  • Your photo must be entirely original and taken by you (restaurant operator, chef or staff) a non-professional.
  • Your photo must be high-resolution (300 dpi).
  • You give permission for Canadian Pizza to publish the photo with credit.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • The competitions are open only to owners, managers, chefs or employees 18 years or older (at the time of entry) from restaurants and pizzerias. Canadian Pizza employees and their family members are not eligible, nor are employees or representatives of advertisers, exhibitors, other suppliers to the industry or their affiliates.
  • The competitions are limited to the first 100 completed entry forms received.
  • Photo, description and/or video are collectively referred to as an entry. Only one entry per competitor per establishment will be accepted. Note: Each competitor may enter one category only (Recipe, Pizza Kit or Photo). No more than one (1) entry is allowed from a single establishment.*
  • *”Establishment” refers to business ownership and not physical location. Corporately owned pizzeria or restaurant chains may enter up to three competitors across the corporation. Individual franchisees count as one establishment and may enter one (1) competitor per franchisee.)
  • The Canadian Pizza Virtual Competitions will be open for entries beginning at 12:01 A.M. Eastern Standard Time on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, and will close at 11:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 (“Entry Period”).
  • The winner will be announced at the Canadian Pizza Virtual Summit on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. All entries become the property of Canadian Pizza magazine and will not be acknowledged or returned.

VOTING:

  • Entries will be posted online where other pizza operators and any member of the public may vote for their favourite. The sooner you send in your recipe, the more exposure it will get before voting closes on Sept. 30!
  • Operators and staff are invited to vote for their favourite recipe, pizza kit and/or photo and at the same time to register for the Canadian Pizza Summit on Oct. 18, 2021, when winners will be announced live.
  • All members of the public (for example, your pizzeria’s fans) may vote after registering and providing basic contact information such as name, email and location.

JUDGING:

  • Judges for all categories will be announced on canadianpizzamag.com and our enewsletter which is free to Canadian pizzerias.
  • Decisions by the judges are final and binding in all aspects of this contest.
  • Separate from the judging, a People’s Choice Award will be determined in each category by number of votes received from pizza operator votes and the public combined.
  • Bonus: The community that receives the most votes per capita will be named and promoted as Pizza Capital of Canada!

PRIZES:

Winner of Best Pizza Recipe will receive the following:

  • International Pizza Expo 2022 registration for one person (*subject to travel to the U.S. being open)
  • Entry into the non-traditional division of the 2022 International Pizza Challenge (optional)
  • Hotel room for four (4) nights / five (5) days at one of our host hotels (room and taxes only, excludes incidentals)
  • Your recipe featured in Canadian Pizza magazine

Winner of Best Pizza Kit will receive the following:

  • Visa Gift Card (value $300)
  • Plaque to display in your pizzeria
  • Your pizza kit featured in Canadian Pizza magazine

Winner of Best Photo will receive the following:

  • Plaque featuring your winning photo to display in your pizzeria
  • Your photo featured in Canadian Pizza magazine

These competitions are for professional chefs, employees and operators.

However, we want you to get your own customers and fans involved! Build your brand by encouraging your loyal customers and new fans to vote for their favourite pizza. The community that receives the most votes per capita will be named Pizza Capital of Canada!
