February 7, 2011, Richmond, B.C. – This Valentine’s Day, Canadians can enjoy a heart-shaped pie from Boston Pizza while supporting a good cause.

One dollar from the sale of each heart-shaped pizza will go to the Boston Pizza Foundation, which supports local, national and global non-profit organizations that work to improve the health and well being of children and families.

“By simply enjoying a delicious heart-shaped pizza on Valentine’s Day, our guests will help the Boston Pizza Foundation support a number of charities benefiting kids and families across Canada,” says Cheryl Treliving, executive director of the Boston Pizza Foundation. “Canadians have opened their hearts to the Boston Pizza Foundation on Valentine’s Day for almost 20 years, and the money we raise is a testament to the generous spirit of Canadians from coast-to-coast.”

For 2011, Boston Pizza has introduced a new way to support the foundation. For the first time, Canadians can “finger cook” a heart-shaped pizza and give back from the comfort of their own home through Boston Pizza’s online take-out and delivery service.

Heart-shaped pizzas are available in individual, small and medium sizes. They can be ordered for dine-in, take out or delivery in any of Boston Pizza’s gourmet and create-your-own pizza varieties.

Boston Pizza anticipates making more than 50,000 heart-shaped pizzas on Valentine’s Day.

Customers can also give a Valentine’s Day message to someone special, with the purchase of a paper heart. The chain is selling red paper hearts for one dollar, or pink paper hearts for five dollars. All proceeds from the sale of the paper hearts will go directly to the Boston Pizza Foundation.

Since its launch in 1990, the foundation has raised more than $10.5 million for a variety of charities, including Kids Help Phone, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
