Topper's Pizza makes $ 10,000 donation

Topper’s Pizza has kicked off Cancer Awareness Month with a $ 10,000 donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

March 29, 2011, Barrie, Ont. – Topper’s Pizza has kicked off Cancer
Awareness Month with a $10,000 donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The donation was presented March 25 at the company’s franchising office in Barrie. The money was raised after the company agreed to donate a portion of sales from its famous House Dip, retailing for the first time in a bottled format, for an entire calendar year. All 35 Ontario Topper’s locations participated.

“We were very optimistic,” said Topper’s Pizza president Keith Toppazzini. “The product was so popular that we exceeded our sales goals for the first year leading to a much higher donation than anticipated. We couldn’t be happier.”

Friday’s presentation marks the second donation of this size made by the company in the past four years.

Canadian Cancer Society representative Francine Laroche and Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman were on hand to receive the donation.

“The community of Barrie, including family-owned businesses like Topper’s Pizza, is a strong supporter of cancer initiatives throughout the province,” said Lehman, pointing to the new Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre, part of Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital expansion, as one example. “It is an honour to celebrate the ongoing efforts of our constituents towards such a worthwhile cause.”

The presentation, followed by refreshments and a light pizza lunch, marked the first public event hosted by Topper’s Pizza since relocating its franchising office to Barrie from Collingwood earlier this year.
