Hobart designed its new Edge 13A automatic slicer for smaller operations that require less than four hours of meat and cheese slicing per day. It includes several features to ensure safety and cleanliness, Hobart said in a press release.

The Edge 13A features a one-speed, half-horsepower knife drive motor to ensure durability and performance, along with a poly V-belt drive system, a design that extends belt life while producing optimal slicing results and quieter operation. The system also offers cost savings for maintenance and repair by reducing parts and service time.

To ensure proper sanitation and provide labour savings for cleaning, the slicer features a one-piece anodized aluminum base with no cracks, crevices or bolt holes where product can lodge or bacteria can enter.

Other features include no-volt release, which means the slicer must be restarted to operate after a power failure or being unplugged; a 13-inch-diameter chrome-plated carbon steel knife to improve yield; and a top-mounted ceramic stone sharpener that sharpens and hones in 15 seconds, with a single action.
