PIZZA chain Domino's is feeling the heat after health authorities
called for a ban on its latest advertising campaign, accusing it of
marketing alcohol to children.
The Australia-wide campaign
promoting the fast food retailer's new "8 meats pizza" features a
special barbecue sauce labelled by bourbon brand Jim Beam. Advertising
flyers feature a pizza next to a bottle of the sauce with the same name
and distinctive logo that appears on the bourbon bottle.
The
barbecue sauce bottle in the ad is almost identical to Jim Beam's
premixed bourbon products sold in bars, nightclubs and bottle shops.
While
the advertisements clearly state that the sauce does not contain
alcohol, experts believe the ads encourage people – particularly
children – to associate pizza with drinking. The campaign includes a
competition to win an Xbox game console, popular with youngsters.
