Mississauga, Ont. – Maple Leaf Foods has acquired Field Roast Grain Meat Co., a manufacturer and brand of grain-based ‘meat’ and vegan cheese products, for more than $120 million US.
Field Roast is a maker of plant-based protein products. This acquisition advances Maple Leaf’s vision to be the most sustainable protein company on earth, including a core strategy to diversify into plant-based protein, the company said in a news release. In 2017, Maple Leaf acquired Lightlife Foods.
Maple Leaf Foods Inc. manufactures protein products under national brands Maple Leaf, Maple Leaf Prime, Maple Leaf Natural Selections, Schneiders, Schneiders Country Naturals, Mina, and Lightlife.
The company employs approximately 11,500 people and does business in Canada, the U.S. and Asia.
