January 27, 2010, U.S. – In one of the toughest years the restaurant industry has ever endured, Papa Murphy's managed to grow its total U.S. system-wide sales to $630 million US in 2009, up more than seven per cent from 2008.

The pizza chain ended the year with 1,185 locations, opening 83 in 2009. Same-store sales were up more than two per cent, while most industry watchers estimated the pizza places to be down about seven per cent.

"There's a lot to be proud of," said John Barr, Papa Murphy's chief executive officer.

"I'd credit our success last year to the attribute that has made us successful year after year, and that's value. We rang up more transactions in 2009 than the prior year because consumers continue to recognize that Papa Murphy's means generous quantity, quality ingredients, personalized service, home baked convenience, all wrapped up in the concept of affordability. We take great pride in our value proposition.”
