Mobile app ties dining to charity

April 7, 2010, U.S. – The new CauseWorld application aims to help restaurants drive foot traffic by giving consumers the opportunity to earn “karma points” and donate to charity during visits.

Individuals can donate the karma points they earn for visiting restaurants and retailers to various charities and causes.

When users open the application, it uses the phone’s GPS to present a list of nearby restaurants and stores. When they enter a restaurant and "check in," they earn karma points which can then be donated to their choice of 15 charities, with the money coming from advertisers such as Citi Bank, Procter and Gamble and Kraft.

While all restaurants are automatically part of the application based purely on GPS, some are becoming more involved and offering diners "double karmas" if they come to their restaurant. The application can be downloaded at www.causeworld.com.
