Gabriola Island, B.C. – Woodfire Restaurant & Catering on Gabriola Island, B.C., has taken the creative step of having a “charity pizza” on their menu in support of fundraising campaigns for various good causes.

“The sense of community is very strong on Gabriola and everyone is there to help each other,” co-owner Sharon Hooton told Canadian Pizza. “As a business, we feel it’s important to give back to the community in whatever ways we can. Running a charity pizza on every menu is a very simple way for us to help individual fundraising efforts in the community whilst at the same time, promoting their fundraising campaigns, through social media and local publications and notices.”

The pizzas are put to work helping a variety of community causes, said Hooton, who owns the business along with chef Chris Hooton.

“Previous recipients have been Adin Brenner to help send him to the World Gymnastic Championships via his favourite dish at Woodfire, our Cioppino. Gertie, our local bus, through sales of our Gertie Fries and raising funds for the building of the Jack Pine Cabin in honour of Jeff Molloy. We have just donated $500 to the school band program, and are currently sponsoring the new Skatepark Campaign.”

Keep up the good work, Woodfire Restaurant & Catering!
