Vaughan, Ont. – Pizza Fest in Vaughan, Ont., played host to 20 pizzerias and a dozen beer and beverage tents July 13-15.

Although attendance numbers were not in yet for the privately run festival, in its third year, organizer Remo Palladini speculated that about 20,000 people attended the weekend event. That’s up from 13,000 attendees in 2016.

Attendees bought tickets that could be redeemed for pizza, panzerotti, pizza cones, pasta, beer, beverages and gelato at vendors’ booths.

Although a handful of the participating pizzerias were from outside the Vaughan/Woodbridge area, many were local, including Marco Zambri from Slopes of Vesuvius Mobile Pizzeria. “It’s been good, it’s been steady,” Zambri said on Sunday afternoon.

Entertainment included a pizza eating contest, a wrestling match, children’s rides, live music and an appearance by Sopranos actor Vincent Pastore.
