Apr. 25, 2008, Toronto – The Italian Trade Commission and 21 of Toronto’s finest Italian restaurants are hosting the first-ever Italian Seasons Spring-Primavera Festival in Toronto May 16-31.

“Springtime has finally arrived,” says Paolo Ponti, Italian Trade Commissioner, “and we are inviting people to sample exclusive dishes inspired by the season, at some of the best restaurants in the city.”

In spring, Italian kitchens come alive with colour and fragrance as dishes that reflect the season grace the table.  The Italian Seasons Festival presented by the Italian Trade Commission celebrates this tradition with exclusive spring inspired menus at Toronto’s top restaurants.

From May 16-31, the public is invited to enjoy the simple pleasure of authentic Italian ingredients inspired by the season.  “Pairing Toronto’s world-class talent with the most refined Italian ingredients has encouraged the city’s award-winning chefs to take up the challenge and create exquisite one-off menus available only for the duration of the Italian Seasons festival,” says Ponti.

Patrons are encouraged to sample both traditional and inventive dishes to tempt and inspire their palate. Award-winning risotto with slow braised duck confit and rare, fifty year old Modena Balsamic Vinegar – or a warm salad of roasted rabbit loin, artichokes, fresh fava beans, pine nuts, and pecorino sardo – or a gelato made of melted Grana Padano cooled with cream and served with a drizzle of premium traditional balsamic vinegar.

From a classic Italian menu to a light dinner alongside exciting wines, you’re invited to tour Italy’s regions and recipes this spring by visiting one of the over twenty participating restaurants.   The Italian Trade Commission is creating a new tradition in Toronto with this inaugural festival, and is already planning its Italian Seasons Winter-Inverno Festival for later this year.
