It Ain’t Frozen

I’m all for great marketing and promoting our pizza, but
what really gets me is that the Canadian Dairy Farmers of Canada
insists frozen pizza is not in direct competition with real pizzerias.

It’s a real handmade pizza

I’m all for great marketing and promoting our pizza, but what really gets me is that the Canadian Dairy Farmers of Canada insists frozen pizza is not in direct competition with real pizzerias.

I think that is totally bogus.

I mean, how can these guys get a Class 5(a) – which allows them to get cheese at a reduced rate, sell their products frozen and market it as a real pizza? Meanwhile, we’re paying top dollar for mozzarella cheese and work to put out a fresh pizza – and most of us don’t have the funds to advertise on television like the big boys.

Have you seen some of the commercials coming out now for frozen pizzas? You’re out in the middle of nowhere and the catch phrase is, “It’s not delivery, it’s Delissio.”

Or how about the guy in the small kitchen with a super-long pizza paddle, trying to get a pint-sized pizza out of the microwave? I’m sorry, but if that’s not a dig on real pizzas then what is?

A pizza is a pizza from a pizzeria, a frozen pizza from a microwave is a frozen pizza.

Any way you slice it; it’s a pizza.

My point is, if McCain’s, Delissio and the Canadian Dairy Farmers of Canada feel these frozen pizza companies are not in direct competition with us, then why not give all pizzerias across Canada their just desserts and allow them the same rebates and discounts on mozzarella cheese. After that, let these   companies advertise how great their product is. Competition is good and healthy for everyone, but not when frozen pizza companies are taking the food out of our mouths to feed their egos.

I dare any frozen pizza company to put their money where their mouth is and actually try to compete with me or any other hard-working pizzaiolo and let the public decide.

At my place, I make take-and-bake pizzas that you can bring home. If you want to freeze it, great – if not, put it in the oven and cook it. Tell me what the consumer would rather eat:  a fresh homemade pizza or a frozen one out of a box?

Let’s start comparing apples to apples and pizza to pizza. I’m calling out any and all frozen pizza companies to put out or pull out.

As for the Canadian Dairy Farmers of Canada, I dare you to prove to the Canadian public that frozen pizzas are not in competition with real pizzerias and give us the same treatment as you do to frozen pizza companies.

I want to know whose greasing whose pockets. I’m calling you out.

I urge all pizzerias across Canada to do the same. We deserve a break on our mozzarella prices.

They say they are not in competition with us. I say they are competing and the worst thing is, they are winning the battle.
Let’s win the war.
I’m the Pizza Dude.•
