Vancouver – Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program and Restaurants Canada have joined forces to raise awareness of sustainable seafood and how to source it.

The Ocean Wise program has more than 650 partners, including restaurants, retailers and suppliers, with thousands of partner locations across Canada. Restaurants Canada members represent more than 30,000 businesses, who will now have access to information and guidance about sourcing Ocean Wise-recommended seafood, Restaurants Canada said in a news release.

Both organizations are committed to educating the foodservices community, and this partnership is a step toward ensuring all businesses in Canada have the information to make sustainable seafood purchasing decisions.

“Over the past decade, there has been real momentum in the sustainable seafood movement across Canada’s foodservice industry. Our industry partners are passionate about protecting the world’s oceans, and recognize the value in working with Ocean Wise,” said Ann-Marie Copping, Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program manager, in the release.

As part of the agreement, new Ocean Wise partners that are currently members of Restaurants Canada will receive a discount on their annual fee for the first two years, and the same is true for new Restaurants Canada members that are currently Ocean Wise members.

“Sustainable seafood continues to be a popular choice among restaurant diners,” said Donna Dooher, president and chief executive officer of Restaurants Canada. “Restaurants Canada is proud to work with Ocean Wise on this worthy initiative.”
