Multigrain Crust
In a market that has seen a growing desire for wholegrain and multigrain products, Panago’s proprietary blend of five grains (stone-ground whole wheat, rye, malted barley, mustard seed, and flax seed) will offer consumers a wholesome pizza crust that delivers an authentic flavour with more nutritional advantages.

Panago’s new multigrain crust is hand-tossed in the store providing a texture and look similar to its original hand-tossed crust, but with a slightly more rustic flavour profile typical of a multigrain bread product.

“Our goal was to develop a product that combined the benefits of wholegrain ingredients with a flavour profile that was very approachable for our customers, and based on our initial customer testing, we are excited about the new recipe,” said Jason Symington, corporate chef at Panago.

Gold for pizza promos
Panago Pizza dominated the Frankie Awards with record wins at the Canadian Franchise Association’s Excellence in Advertising Awards in Niagara Falls, Ontario, in early May.
Capturing awards in 13 of the gala’s 18 categories, Panago’s 2005 creative work was recognized by judges as being Canada’s most innovative, effective, and spirited franchise advertising.
Panago earned gold awards in corporate identity, packaging design, brochures (business-to-business), magazine advertising, and outdoor advertising; silver awards in brochures (consumer/retail), newspaper advertising, and media campaign; a bronze award in direct marketing; and craft awards in photography, illustration, and printing.

Wholegrains make up about 40 per cent of the crust, providing consumers with the nutritional advantages of wholegrain ingredients, while also being a good source of fibre.

Fire-Roasted Tomatoes
Continuing on Panago’s commitment to offering its customers innovative and new toppings, Panago has introduced a new fire-roasted tomato. The tomatoes are roasted over a wood fire fuelled by a blend of natural cherry wood.

“The roasting intensifies and concentrates the tomato flavours giving it a sweet and mellow sensibility combined with a subtle, smoky finish,” said Symington. The new fire-roasted tomatoes will complement Panago’s gourmet menu of over 35 pizza topping choices.

Tuscan Sausage Pizza
Made from spicy Italian sausage, chorizo sausage, fennel sausage, red onions, fire-roasted tomatoes, Italian tomato sauce, mozzarella and cheddar, the new Tuscan sausage pizza combines a selection of premium ingredients, offering consumers a chef-inspired culinary experience, with takeout convenience.

“Panago has always been about launching innovative products and offering our consumers an experience not typically expected from local delivery/take-out pizza. These product launches build on that positioning,” said Alex Green, vice president of marketing.

With over 150 locations and annual sales in excess of 100 million, Panago has built a reputation as one of Canada’s leading pizza chains with an innovative menu of gourmet pizzas, fresh salads, Torizoné breadsticks, and wings.•
