September 7, 2010, Toronto – Beginning this month, any
Pizza Pizza pie sold to an Ontario elementary school will have a modified
recipe and portion size, bringing the franchise’s pizza into compliance with
the new provincial school food policy one year ahead of schedule.

The Ontario School Food & Beverage Policy, slated for
province-wide implementation in September 2011, is based on the healthy eating
principles outlined in Canada’s Food Guide. It rates food and beverages sold in
Ontario schools to ensure that high-quality choices are available to students.

Pizza
Pizza’s changes have placed their pies in the “Healthiest (Sell Most)” category
of the new rating system. Foods with this rating generally have higher levels
of essential nutrients and lower amounts of fat, sugar or sodium.
