August 16, 2010, Canada – Pizza Pizza announced flat same stores sales growth for the second quarter ended June 30.
Same store sales growth (SSSG) in the quarter was unchangedfrom the same quarter last year. Year-to-date, SSSG decreased 1.2 per cent. Duringthe quarter, improvement in the Ontario marketplace was offset by challengingeconomic conditions in the Alberta market.
The majority of the Pizza Pizza restaurants operate inOntario, where the economy has shown continued signs of modest growth. For thePizza 73 brand, the majority of the restaurants operate in Alberta, where theeconomy continues to be affected by unemployment. However, according to theJune 2010 RBC Economics Research outlook newsletter, Alberta is expected to experiencethe fastest retail growth of all the provinces.
