The marriage has resulted in benefits to consumers, including 12 new store openings, single slice options and in-store family dining at select Pizza 73 locations.

Pizza Pizza’s decision to purchase Pizza 73 was based on similarities between business philosophies and industry achievements. Both brands are committed to providing customers with the best quality product, value and convenience. They are both Canadian owned and operated, well established in their respective markets, and industry innovators.

Pizza 73 is the first pizzeria-wingeria to operate in Western Canada and the first to launch the “Everyday Deal” two-for-one pizza special. It was the first in its region to introduce a centralized call center and later, the first to launch an online ordering system. Today, more than 20 per cent of Pizza 73 orders are placed through its website.

Pizza Pizza is also responsible for a number of firsts. The company was the first to introduce the one-number telephone ordering system, and to create one of the most uniquely recognizable jingles in the industry. It was also was the first company to sell pizza by the slice, and now leads Canada in single slices sold.

“The fusion between our chains is very complementary,” says Pat Finelli, vice president of marketing for Pizza Pizza / Pizza 73. “Both brands are pioneers in their markets and both strive to provide a quality product that’s second to none. We’re really excited to build on this and to give Albertans even more to love.”

New marriages often bring change, which for Pizza 73 has come in the form of more locations to serve ever-increasing volume, an enhanced logo with the ‘Hot & Fresh’ tagline, earlier opening hours, in-store seating, and pizzas by the slice. While the majority of Pizza 73 stores continue to open at 4 p.m., those opening in new communities are testing being open for lunch to serve their growing clientele.

With the new slices offering, customers will have the opportunity to enjoy hot and fresh menu items throughout the day for lunch, dinner, catering and anytime in between.

“More locations and new innovations will help strengthen our ability to meet and exceed the evolving needs of our customers,” notes Darren Wagner, vice president operations and distribution at Pizza Pizza / Pizza 73. “Extended hours, family seating and pizza slices are just the beginning.”
