Feb. 13, 2015, Vaughan, Ont. – Pizza Hut Canada
has launched a creative marketing campaign that encourages customers to leave their significant other for pizza on
Valentine's Day and share their break-up story online.

The chain is giving free pizza (in the form of gift
cards) to 20 people who cancel their Valentine's plans because they
prefer pizza. Break-up evidence could be a text screen cap, a changed
relationship status on Facebook or a tweet ending it with your
significant other, using the hastag #BreakUp4Pizza.

The campaign is the creation of Pizza Hut Canada's
digital team and their long-time ad agency GRIP, who also created
'Aphrocheesiac' in 2014, a post-Valentine's Day, seductive seasoning
gift for the spicy pizza lovers, and Eau de Pizza Hut in 2012, a
celebrity fragrance boasting top notes of freshly baked, hand-tossed
dough. Strategic Objectives is supporting the campaign through public,
media, and blogger relations.

Inspired by lists like Elite Daily's 59 Reasons Why Pizza Is Literally 100 per cent Better Than a Boyfriend, Pizza Hut Canada put together two top 10 lists.

Why break the news:

  • Pizza's cool with staying in
  • You don't have to share
  • Get the toppings you want. Even olives.
  • Pizza doesn't mind when you wear sweats
  • It's there for you. No questions asked.
  • It's always waiting for your call
  • It knows that sometimes the right thing to say is
  • nothing at all
  • You have its undivided attention
  • It's up for it, if you are
  • Thinks your friends are awesome

How to break the news:

  • There's no 'we' in pizza
  • Pizza is the only love triangle I want
  • That awkward moment when I remembered I love pizza more than you
  • The difference between pizza and your opinion is that I only asked for pizza
  • I just need more time for me. And pizza
  • I tripped and fell into some feelings…I'm okay now, I ordered a pizza
  • Sorry. I met someone else. It was love at first bite
  • I'll always love you. Just not as much as pizza
  • You were perfect for me, until you ate my last slice
  • Fri(end) Boyfri(end) Girlfri(end) Pi(forever)zza. Pizza will always be there for me, unlike you
