Laval, Que. – The federal government recently granted a $2,100,000 repayable contribution to Viau Food Products to help the dry cured pepperoni producer improve the efficiency of its operations.

“This highly innovative family business is the first to have developed, produced and marketed dry cured pepperoni in Canada, and is the largest producer of this pepperoni. It is widely known through its major innovations in the processing of a variety of deli meats,” said a news release from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, an arm of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.

As part of its four-year strategic plan, Viau Food Products is improving its productivity and increasing its exports to stimulate growth, the release said. The business has launched more than 60 products since 2013 and is focusing on research and development. The project will allow Viau to increase its productivity by investing in equipment, adding additional line capacity and investing in new lines to help broaden its range of products.

The expansion is expected to create 125 jobs in the greater Montreal area.
