Louisville, KY – Papa John’s is the first U.S. pizza chain to announce it has removed artificial flavours and synthetic colours from its food menu including all pizza ingredients, pizza toppings, dessert items and sauces, the company said in a news release.

“We closed out 2015 announcing our commitment to serve chicken raised without antibiotics and are ringing in the New Year artificial-flavor and synthetic-color free,” said Sean Muldoon, Papa John’s senior vice-president of research and development, in the release. “We’re so proud to be able to show our customers how much we care about what they’re eating. This exemplifies Papa John’s continued efforts to deliver high-quality products. It’s the right thing to do.”

Under the banner of its “Better Ingredients. Better Pizza” slogan, the company said it is committed to eliminating artificial flavours, synthetic colours in its products. By summer, it anticipates eliminating antibiotics in its chicken toppings and poppers.

Papa John’s current products list contain no trans-fats, no MSG, no fillers in core meat toppings, no BHA or BHT preservatives, and no partially hydrogenated oils, the company said.
