Famoso and Mealshare fight youth hunger with annual sauce campaign

Vancouver – For the sixth year, Famoso Italian Pizzeria + Bar will sell its Campania Tomato Sauce at all 30 restaurants located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, in partnership with non-profit Mealshare. For every jar of Campania sauce purchased, meals will be provided to Canadian youth in need right in the community in which the sauce was sold through to Dec. 31, 2018.

“Mealshare continues to be an important partner for Famoso, especially during the holiday season,” said Frank di Benedetto, chief executive officer of Famoso, in a news release. “We began selling our Campania Tomato Sauce jars in 2013, and we want to continue this tradition of giving back to the communities our restaurants operate within and work towards the goal of ending youth hunger in Canada.”

Mealshare’s mission is to enable and inspire people to join the fight to end youth hunger. Funds raised from last year’s Campania Tomato Sauce sales provided 29,607 meals to in-need youth across Western Canada and Ontario. Since Campania Tomato Sauce sales began in 2013, 28,176 jars of sauce have been purchased to support the 18 local communities in which Famoso operates and Famoso expects another 5,800 jars to be sold this year.

“We are thrilled to partner with Famoso again for the Campania Tomato Sauce campaign, this holiday season,” said Andrew Hall, co-founder of Mealshare. “Over the last five years the Campania campaign has raised over $100,000 to help provide meals to hungry youth in Canadian communities, and we’re sure this season will be another successful year for the Campania campaign and the kids it helps.”

Famoso’s Campania Tomato Sauce is hand-milled and jarred, and available only during the holiday season. It retails for $8 per 500 mL jar.
