New restaurant performance stats available

The first comprehensive Canadian restaurant industry performance report in more than a decade is now available.

November 7, 2011, Toronto – The first comprehensive Canadian restaurant
industry performance report in more than a decade is now available.

More than 600 restaurateurs representing almost 3,000 quick service, family, casual and fine dining restaurants participated in The Bottom Line Survey, produced by Toronto's Kostuch Media and foodservice and franchise consultants FHG International, in association with Ryerson University School of Hospitality Management.

The results of the survey have been electronically shared with more than 15,000 readers of Kostuch Media's Foodservice and Hospitality magazine. They are also available as an industry service to anyone who wants to learn more about the restaurant sector.

"Industry operators are hungry for operating data in which they can analyze operations in order to enable them to operate more effectively in a tough economic market," said Doug Fisher, president of FHG. "This type of operating data is what educators, operators and consultants have been clamouring for over the years. It is just this type of data, which provides details on operations by segment, by province, by number of seats, by square footage, by province, and by municipal location is just what operators need to measure their performance."

"The number of responses to our survey was outstanding for our first effort and we have captured a statistically significant number of units. We hope that over the years, the industry will come to embrace these results through increased participation in future surveys, which will be conducted annually in January and February, with results posted every May of the same year," said Rosanna Caira, editor and publisher of Kostuch Media and one of the report's sponsors.
