Ont., Boston Pizza franchisees, Dave, Joan, and Andy Staffen, are the
recipients of the Boston Pizza International’s 2008 Franchisee of the Year award,
the company’s most celebrated honour.

Their honour was recognized at Boston
Pizza’s annual Franchisee Awards Conference held in San Diego, CA. Winners of
the prestigious Franchisee of the Year award are personally selected by Boston
Pizza International Inc. co-owners and co-chairmen Jim Treliving and George
Melville. The award recognizes franchisees that have made a significant
contribution to the Boston Pizza system by consistently ranking among the top
in sales, quality assurance, community involvement and overall business
excellence.

“We’re truly honoured to have been
recognized with the Franchisee of the Year award,” says Dave Staffen. “This
award is a testament of the hard work and dedication of our entire management
team and staff. We couldn’t have done it without them.”

“We’d also like to thank the Midland
community for their continued loyalty and support,” says Andy Staffen. “We’ve
made a lot of new friends over the years and we enjoy being actively involved
in the community to give back and show our appreciation.”

Last year alone the Staffens donated $5,000
to local schools as part of their Operation Education earnback program. Five per
cent of all restaurant sales generated from students, parents or teachers of participating
Midland schools is donated back to the schools to fund new resources. Since the
store began its Operation Education program in 2006, Boston Pizza Midland has
given back $15,000 to local schools. Boston Pizza Midland’s 2008 charity golf
tournament raised $18,600 for Wendat Community Programs, which provides
transportation for people with mental disabilities. Since the store held its
first tournament in 2005 it has raised $55,600 for Wendat Community Programs
and the Staffens will be hosting its fifth annual charity golf tournament on
June 29, 2009.

“In five short years, the Staffens have
defined themselves as what all Boston Pizza franchisees should strive for,”
says Melville. “Their commitment to a quality product, superior service, and
integration within the local community is the essence of Boston Pizza’s
culture.”

The Staffens are no stranger to accolades.
In 2005 the Midland store was named number 1 in Canada for Boston Pizza’s All
Stars award program which recognizes the best in restaurant operations. In 2006
they were recipients of the Top Quality Assurance award for Eastern Canada,
scoring a near-perfect 99.72 per cent. For the past three consecutive years,
Boston Pizza Midland has been named a “platinum” store based on solid
operations, business review scores and Empathica guest survey scores.
