LCBO opens scholarships to women in wine, beer and beverage programs

Ontario – Women studying in wine, beer and beverage programs at George Brown College, Niagara College and Brock University are eligible for scholarships, bursaries and awards funded by The Liquor Control Board of Ontario.

The LCBO has donated more than $18,000 as part of its Spirit of Inclusion Initiative to create opportunities for diverse women in the beverage alcohol industry.

The financial awards are available to eligible students in the following programs:

  • CAPS Certified Sommelier Program
  • Wine Specialist Program
  • Beer Specialist Program
  • Advanced Wine & Beverage Business Management Program
  • WSET Level 3 Program

Students who self-identify as a woman from a diverse background currently under-represented in the beverage alcohol industry will be eligible to apply for Spirit of Inclusion Initiative scholarships, bursaries, and programming. Examples include but not limited to: Black women, Indigenous women, Women of Colour, women with disabilities, first generation Canadians, 2SLGBTQ+, non-binary gender.

Applicants must be a first year or returning student registered in one of these three post-secondary institutions:

  • George Brown College’s beverage alcohol programs: Advanced Wine & Beverage Business Management Program, Beer Specialist Program, CAPS Certified Sommelier Program, WSET Level 3 Program and Wine Specialist Program.
  • Brock University’s Wine Management program
  • Niagara College’s beverage alcohol programs: Artisan Distilling, and Beverage Business Management, Brewing & Management, Brewing & Operation Management and Winery & Viticulture Technician program

Selected students will also demonstrate an interest in participating in programming throughout the year, including mentorship and events, and be open to sharing their experiences.
