Housman wins Canadian Pizza's
Chef of the Year honours
 
Dave Housman,
managing partner of Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria in Edmonton, is Canadian Pizza magazine’s Chef of the Year.





February 24, 2010, Simcoe, Ont. – Dave Housman,
managing partner of Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria in Edmonton, is Canadian Pizza magazine’s Chef of the Year.

Housman earned first place in the contest
with his Dolce Vesta pizza featuring a salsa base, cajun chicken, sweet roasted
Chirizo sausage, pineapple, fiore di latte cheese, basil, romano and sea salt.
His winning entry will take him to the Las Vegas Pizza Expo from March 2 to 4,
where he will compete in the culinary competition for world title honours.

Adrien Vachon, owner of Fat Cat’s Pizza in
Welland, Ont., secured runner-up status and also a place competing in Las Vegas
with his pizza called The Merenda. This vegetarian pie presents sundried tomato
and fresh basil pesto on a traditional hand tossed stone baked crust
topped with roasted red peppers, grilled zucchini and eggplant, fresh buffalo
mozzerella, shredded radicchio and finished with a drizzling of balsamic glaze.


The third finalist to make it to the
taste-test phase of the contest was Jeff Hughes of Diesel Pizza & Wings in
Riverview, N.B. Hughes entered “Aunt Gail’s Favourite”, an inventive blend of
grilled pears in butter and brown sugar topped with bacon and goat cheese.


Canadian
Pizza magazine would like to thank all of this year’s participants. The contest
