Dec. 31, 2013, Syracuse, NY – Giovanni Food Company has earned the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Level 2 Certification.
Giovanni Food supplies the foodservice industry with tomato-based sauces, such as pasta sauce, pizza sauce, salsa and bruschetta.
The SQF Institute, an industry coalition focused on food safety, granted the certifications.
To earn the certification, Giovanni Food had to demonstrate quality control and food safety practices.
A two-day facility audit conducted by a qualified SQF inspector evaluated different aspects of the company’s adherence to the SQF code, including personnel practices, maintenance operations, plant cleanliness, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans, and other critical food safety measures.
Giovanni Food must undergo audits annually to retain its Level 2 certification. The company plans to pursue Level 3, the highest SQF Certification.
