Henry’s Tempeh based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont., has a line of refrigerated tempeh products that are delicious, nutritious, plant-based and require little labour input to incorporate into your menu.

Tempeh is a superfood made from fermented soybeans. Unlike many plant-based options available to food-service operators, it absorbs flavour and retains a chewy, satisfying mouthfeel after cooking.

The company offers three products to restaurants:

Organic Ground Tempeh is unseasoned and suited to nachos, tacos, burritos, chili, burgers, salads/bowls and curries.

Organic Brick Tempeh can be sliced, cubed or diced, then marinated and fried, baked, grilled or deep fried to make bacon, bowls and sandwiches.

Seasoned Ground Tempeh contains 85 per cent organic ingredients) and has an umami flavour profile. Crumble over pizza, nachos, use in tacos etc. Perfect for operators who want plant-based items with little labour or effort. There is no need to fry it before hand and it can be seasoned more.

For pizzerias local to Kitchener-Waterloo and area, the company sells wholesale direct. Henry’s Tempeh products also are available through food-service distributors in Ontario such as 100km foods and Bondi. Larger chains not located in the Kitchener, Ont., area that are looking to buy direct to support several locations may contact the company to discuss buying direct. The products are being listed with Gordon Foodservice in Western Canada and plan to be listed in eastern Canada very soon.

The tempeh products are high in protein and fibre, suitable for flexetarian and vegan diets, gluten and wheat free, made from Canadian organic soybeans and have a four-month shelf life.

Ground Tempeh (organic unseasoned and seasoned) comes in a 400-gram unit size with 10 units per case. Organic Brick Tempeh comes in a 250-gram unit size with 12 units per case. Both can be frozen for up to 12 months.
