September 1, 2010, Louisville, KY – Barbara Hyman’s “Cheesy
Chicken Cordon Bleu” has won the Papa John’s Specialty Pizza Challenge.
The pizza – which features Papa John’s original crust,
spinach, Alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, ham, onions and mozzarella, Asiago,
provolone and Fontina cheeses – accounted for 45 percent of the more than
240,000 Specialty Pizza Challenge pizzas the chain sold throughout the month of
August.
For creating the winning pizza, Hyman will receive up to
$10,000 from the sale of her pies, free Papa John’s pizza for life, and the
chance to appear in one of the chains commercials.
Hyman’s entry was one of more than 12,000 submitted to the
Facebook-based contest. All those entries were narrowed down to three finalists
by a panel of judges that included the Food Network’s Ted Allen and Rich Eisen
of the NFL Network. On August 2, Papa John’s put the three finalists’ pizzas on
its menu. Each finalist was given $1,000 to spend promoting his or her pizza.
Hyman spent her marketing budget on local promotions and a
Facebook page.
The
Cheesy Chicken Cordon Bleu will be available on the Papa John's menu for one
year.
