Apple Pay available in Canada for Amex cardholders

Markham, Ont. – American Express cardholders in Canada may now pay in store using compatible Apple devices at participating American Express contactless merchants or make purchases within participating apps that accept American Express2.

The Apple Pay software rolls out in Canada today, American Express said in a news release. Cardholders can make purchases in store using their Apple Watch, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and for purchases within apps with iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4 and iPad mini 3.

Those customers who use an eligible American Express Card in Apple Pay have access to real-time notifications and details for purchases; and seamless connection to the Amex Mobile App for account monitoring, servicing and access to information about rewards.

American Express said it provides intelligent security systems to help detect fraud by spotting something unusual in a cardholder’s spending pattern and a fraud protection guarantee.

For security purposes, a card in Apple Pay will be tokenized with a different number than the customer’s plastic card, and every payment will be authorized with Touch ID or a passcode before the transaction is processed, the company said.
