October 31, 2008 – Campbellford – Campbellford – Students of all grades at CDHS participated in the nationwide Drive Away Hunger campaign on Oct. 24, 2008.
They brought in a whopping 782 pounds of food to the Fare Share Food Bank in Campbellford, in addition to food donations from Campbellford Dental Centre and the local Farm Credit Canada office.
The drive raised more than a million pounds of food donations across the country.
Teacher Rob Milligan said he was “very proud of what the kids brought in. The students of CDHS are very community- oriented and they have shown in the last couple years that the kids in Campbellford really do care. It’s nice to see this side of youth.”
“The huge amount of food was incredible!” organizer Bonnie Duncan of Farm Credit Canada said. “I was impressed that these kids pulled together like that.”
Part of their motivation came from a pizza lunch donated by Apollo Pizza for the class that brought in the most food. Teacher Julie Brahaney’s room won the lunch by bringing in nearly 240 pounds of food.
