Starbucks Canada adds calories on menu boards

Toronto – Starbucks will begin including calorie information on menu boards at all company-operated and -licensed Canadian Starbucks stores on Sept. 29. The calorie information was previously and continues to be available on the nutrition tab on Starbucks.ca and through the Starbucks mobile app.

“Menu labelling is yet another step to extend our long-standing commitment to ensuring our customers across Canada have the information they need to make informed decisions,” said Rossann Williams, president Starbucks Canada, in a news release.

Starbucks will post calorie counts to accompany each beverage listed on the menu boards, as well as on tags to accompany food in the pastry case. The new menu boards were added to all stores in Canada on Sept. 29 and will be added to pastry case labels Nov. 2.

As of Jan. 1, 2017, restaurant chains and other food service providers with 20 or more locations in Ontario will be required to display of the number of calories of each variety, flavour and size of food and drink items that are offered with standardized portions and content.
