guinnessTORONTO – Guinness Draught, one of the world’s oldest and well-known brands, chose Toronto for the world premiere of its brand new can product launch and announcement that Guinness is the new official beer of Rugby Canada.

Canada is the first market in the world to reveal the new look and new Guinness can.

“Canada is currently one of the fastest growing Guinness Draught markets in the world, and that’s why we chose to reveal our sleek, new look and remarkable can product here,” explained Fergal Murray, who oversees the production of more than 18 million pints of Guinness per week.

The new Guinness can product was first launched in Ireland in 2003 to massive success. In the first year alone, more than 22 million cans were sold.

The global launch also featured the important announcement that the 20-year supporter of international rugby has signed on as the official beer of Rugby Canada, including the men’s and women’s Canadian national teams. Guinness will feature prominently on all team uniforms with the new Guinness logo on the left chest and the back collar of the jerseys and on the shorts.

A multi-million dollar national marketing program, including original Canadian advertising and regular promotions and events, supports the new Guinness launch in Canada.

Restaurants Test Self-Serve Kiosks
Taking a page from banks and airlines, major chains including McDonald’s, Burger King and Subway are field-testing machines that allow consumers to order and pay for their meals without any human contact, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The touch-screens on the kiosks now being tested are almost identical to the display terminals used by workers behind the counters. With them, people can browse menus with multilingual text and eye-popping colour graphics and touch a box to select the items and quantity wanted.

Nearly all of the models in test accept credit and gift cards. More sophisticated ones add debit cards, and the most elaborate – and expensive – also take cash.

After paying, the customer collects a receipt, and the order is sent electronically to the kitchen. The receipt is then exchanged for food at the counter.

Machines that handle cash can cost up to $18,000 US per unit.
