Housman wins Canadian Pizza magazine’s Chef of the Year honours
Written by Canadian Pizza
February 24, 2010, Simcoe, Ont. – Dave Housman, managing partner of Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria in Edmonton, is Canadian Pizza magazine’s Chef of the Year. Housman earned first place in the contest with his Dolce Vesta pizza featuring a salsa base, cajun chicken, sweet roasted Chirizo sausage, pineapple, fiore di latte cheese, basil, romano and sea salt. His winning entry will take him to the Las Vegas Pizza Expo from March 2 to 4, where he will compete in the culinary competition for world title honours.

Adrien Vachon, owner of Fat Cat’s Pizza in Welland, Ont., secured runner-up status and also a place competing in Las Vegas with his pizza called The Merenda. This vegetarian pie presents sundried tomato and fresh basil pesto on a traditional hand tossed stone baked crust topped with roasted red peppers, grilled zucchini and eggplant, fresh buffalo mozzerella, shredded radicchio and finished with a drizzling of balsamic glaze.

The third finalist to make it to the taste-test phase of the contest was Jeff Hughes of Diesel Pizza & Wings in Riverview, N.B. Hughes entered “Aunt Gail’s Favourite”, an inventive blend of grilled pears in butter and brown sugar topped with bacon and goat cheese.

Canadian Pizza magazine would like to thank all of this year’s participants. The contest had a record number of entries for the 2010 title.
