Laura Aiken Happy New Year
Written by Laura Aiken
I hope everyone had a wonderful holidays and a busy New Year’s Eve. We’re into a new decade now. I find December a month of reflecting on where we’ve been and January a time to look at where we’re going. A lot of the talk this week, at least amongst my friends, has been on technology. Cell phones will be the one piece of hardware to singularly change the way your pizzeria is found by your customers as real time location based information is leading the way. Smartphones are creating new ways of marketing and we’re striving to keep you abreast of the evolving ways that people are communicating and what it means for your business next year or in 10 years.

Unfortunately, Canadians are not the first ones to get their hands on the ‘latest and greatest’ of gadgets. Upgrades are slow to make their way in. On the flipside, this does give us a chance to see what is coming before it arrives.

Ironically, technology trends paint a picture of an alternate futuristic universe while food trends see us simplifying. Consumer taste buds are educated. There is no substitute for quality ingredients. While eating healthier is a big trend that’s here to stay, I would argue we still have no problem chowing down a meat lover’s pizza with extra cheese so long as it’s delicious. Making a great pizza is still your core business.

Looking ahead at 2010, I would love to hear what you want to read about in Canadian Pizza magazine. Tell us about the challenges facing your business.  What problem do you want to solve today?
