SoMo 650 mobilizes restaurant personnel
Written by Marketwire
December 2, 2008, Newark, CA - Socket Mobile, Inc., provider of mobile productivity solutions, formed a partnership with Amadeus, a technology and distribution solutions company, to pair the Socket Mobile SoMo 650 handheld computer with its mobile Point of Sale (POS) system for restaurants to create an expandable solution to help wait staff take and process guest orders quicker and more efficiently. The SoMo 650 handheld computer with 128 MB of storage and 624 MHz of processing speed is combined with the Amadeus Restaurant Management System software and stationary POS system. With the mobile solution, a waiter can place the entire order directly from the table, and with one click wirelessly transmit it to the stationary POS system, making the order immediately accessible for the kitchen staff. Amadeus also employs the InfoGenesis software from Agilysys in the POS solution. The software displays the information on the stationary terminal, where the staff can close orders and manage the payment.

Peripherals for the SoMo 650, including bar code scanners and RFID or magnetic card swipe readers, expand the device’s flexibility for applications within the hospitality sector. This allows companies to grow with the mobile solution, instead of finding a new device for each application. The solution is also Wi-Fi enabled and comes with software allowing easy WLAN installation.

Amadeus has already implemented the mobile POS in several hotel restaurants, including the Ringberg Hotel in Suhl, Germany and the Spa Therme Blumau, Austria.

"In a challenging economic environment, it is more important than ever for the hospitality industry to offer compelling services in order to maintain and grow the customer base on a long term basis," said Bob Zink, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Socket Mobile. "The SoMo 650 is an affordable, durable solution and its flexibility allows restaurants and hotels to expand the solution for other areas without switching to a new device and software. Bundled with our warranty program, it is a solution that lasts for years, assuring a high return on investment."
