PIZZA CHEF OF THE YEAR 2012

Do you have the best pizza in Canada? Now is the time to show us your stuff. The Canadian Pizza magazine’s Chef of the Year contest is on and we’re looking for your entry. We’ve made a few changes to this year’s competition, including timing and number of guaranteed spots available in the Pizza Expo finals in Vegas.

Contest Deadline
Send us your favourite recipe plus a 100 word explanation on why your pizza deserves to be the best by Nov. 20, 2011.

Winners will be announced Dec. 12, 2011.

Thank you to our 2012 sponsors: Saputo Foodservice and Faema.

Big prizes!

This year’s champion will win a trip to Las Vegas to compete in a guaranteed spot in the finals of the ‘Traditional OR Non Traditional Category’ at the International Pizza Challenge at the expo from March 13-15, 2012, a $1000 cash prize and the chance to market your pizza as Canadian Pizza magazine’s pick of the year.

NEW: Traditionally, Canada has held one guaranteed spot in the finals in Las Vegas but strong showings from all Canadian competitors have helped us gain a second finals spot, which will go to the runner-up. Winner will choose which category they would like to compete as a finalist in.

One runner-up will receive a trip to Las Vegas that includes a guaranteed spot in the preliminary round of the challenge.

Accommodations, flight and admissions/registration fees for the individual are included in the trip packages.

The criteria and judging panel Stage one of the competition will be judged by members of the editorial staff and their advisors at Canadian Pizza magazine. Recipes will be given a score out of 10 in each of the following categories:

1. Marketability (reasonable cost appeal, ability to sell)

2. Originality (inventive use of ingredient combinations)

3. Flair (a unique touch that brands the pizza)

4. Explanation (your reasons)

The top scoring recipes will move to stage two, at which point they will be baked in the Canadian Pizza test kitchen and taste-tested by a cross-section of independent judges. The finalists will be contacted to discuss their ingredients and methods in detail prior to the test bake. Finalists will be asked to ship their ingredients to Canadian Pizza magazine for the bake day. A judging panel will then vote for their favourite pizza. Rules
Pizza must represent 40% of your menu. Entrants must be owners or employees of the establishment. The finalists may be asked to submit menus validating this. Winners must be legally able to travel to the United States and attend the International Pizza Expo to receive their prizes.

New: Past winners of the Canadian Pizza Chef of the Year contest will not be eligible to win again until three years after the year they earned the title. For example, if you won in 2010 or later, you are not eligible for 2012.
